A truely ugly car

The first car I ever bought was a three door hatchback 78′ chevy chevette. It was not a pretty car and if I had a lot of money I wouldn’t have bought it but I was a student and needed a car. My brother-in-law made some calls and found this brown chevette that only had about 40,000 miles on it and no rust. We looked at it and although I wasn’t thrilled at the look of it still, it was my first car.

I kept it waxed, changed the oil often, changed the filters and kept the tires at the right pressure. I ended up loving that car. Not only did I like it for the memories I had but it was super cheap on fuel consumption, it had a lot of room in it for a small car and it handled well. It also ALWAYS started even in the cold Maine winters. When others had to plug their cars in during the night my little chevette had no trouble with the cold. It was also very easy to handle on ice covered roads. After 170,000 thousand miles of fun the engine finally burned out and Ihad to junk it.

Yesterday a friend of mine and I were talking about former cars we had and she had the same experience with an old chevette. She also has great memories with hers and also liked the great gas milage, space and engine that never seemed to die. Since our talk I’ve been thinking of my old car. I now have a great looking high performance Audi, but still, I think if someone wanted to trade my Audi with an old Chevette I would seriously consider it. I must be twisted but then we’re on Mars so I guess its normal.
